Children's Hospital Charity: Please Consider Giving

My birthday is coming up, its the 23rd of this month. I am raising money to buy things for children at the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids Michigan. But I cannot do it without your help, if you are able to give that would be so much help. This means a lot to me, so if you are able to give anything please do. Thank you! https://www.gofundme.com/esther039s-birthday These children in the hospital are going through such a rough time and I want to cheer them up and also get things that the hospital needs for them. Even if all you can give is a few dollars it will still make a difference.  If 55 people give $18 each I will reach my goal. Thank you!

Just Be You

So many people try copying other people rather than being themselves. They don't realize that each person is different, no one is the same. Some of us walk the same path, but that doesn't make us the same, we are different. We need to be ourselves. Each and every person is unique, to be unique you don't have to be the same as someone else, to be unique you have to be you, you have to be yourself. I've had people tell me they don't want me doing this or that or that they don't like it when I am being myself, they didn't want me to be Esther, they wanted me to be someone else. I almost let them win, but one of my older sisters said "Esther, G-d won't ask you why you were not more like this or that person, instead He is going to ask you, Why weren't you more like Esther?" "If you try to be someone else then who is going to be Esther?" I was then able to go back to being myself, believe me it can be hard to take the first step, ...

Embroidery

Image
I love doing embroidery, sewing etc... I believe these kind of things are worthwhile and the skill can come in handy and is good to learn. Last blog post I said that I am going to embroider a quilt top but at the time didn't know what theme I was going to use. I am planning on doing a quilt square with a design, something that has to do with a nation that I am from, I am part Dutch so one quilt square will have a Dutch theme, such as a windmill or wooden shoes, you get the idea. I am hoping to be able to design what ever design I use, however I would love to have some ideas for the different nations. I requested some embroider books from the library as I am still trying to learn embroidery. This is from the "Silk Ribbon Embroidery Chinese Style" This is one of the projects. I think it is so Amazing what you can do with embroidery. "Victorian Canvaswork" looks interesting, some of the...

Catching Up

Image
So I see I haven't posted on here in quite some time. In the future I will try to be a more active blogger. Anyways I thought I would share with you all some of the projects that I've been doing. I have been working on crocheting a blanket using light blue and purple, I have just completed row 85. I am not sure if I am at the half way mark yet or not, as I am not following a pattern. I am using the double crochet stitch. I am thinking about doing a simple (not sure what color) border around it when it's finished.  I am still learning to crochet, I am working on learning the single crochet stitch. I don't really like reading so I usually only read a book once, however I have just finished reading "Shadow Spinner" for the fifth time. We are really careful what kind of books we allow into the home, this is a good book and I think it is one that someone who doesn't like to read will pick up time and time again. I haven't finished readin...

Hanukkah Is Just Around The Corner

Image
Hanukkah is just a little over a week away, its just around the corner. We like to decorate some for the holidays. So here are some really great ideas:  On some large glass sliding doors or even on regular windows you can use window markers, draw out menorahs, You can even take a favorite Hanukkah song and write out the words on one of the windows, write Hanukkah greetings out, There are probably a lot more things you can do with window markers when decorating for Hanukkah, but I was only listing a few. Take pine cones and dip them in white and blue wax, set them in a wooden bowl and a drop or so of peppermint essential oil, or any other essential oil that you like the smell of just be careful how much you use. You can also dip them in wax and place them in different places around the house. Make paper dreidels and hang them about the house or set them on window sills or were ever you want. Use white, blue, and silver ribbon and string next to paper dreidels. You know tho...

Cake Decorating Tips

Here is the post that you all have been waiting for. I hope you find the tips helpful and I hope that for those of you who are into cake decorating you find something that will make your cake decorating much easier. 1. Use wax paper, trace around the pan with a black permanent marker or a pen, the pen will just leave a small dent around. Cut it out then after you grease the pan with Crisco you just place the wax paper in the pan. Then when the cake is done being baked just go around the cake with a table knife. After flipping the cake, remove the wax paper. The wax paper will make getting you cake out much easier. 2. Yes you can make the cake from scratch; but when you're going to be taking the cake out of the pan to decorate it, it's a much better idea to use a cake mix. 3. Before you decorate on the cake you should spend some time practicing, you can use wax paper and then when finished practicing you can just throw it out, or you can use the back of a cake pan. I...

In The Kitchen With Grandma #2

Image
I know I said that this next post would be about cake decorating tips, however about two weeks ago or so my three little sisters had a cake decorating lesson with Grandma, so the cake decorating tip post will have to wait until another day.                                                           Grandma was helping the girls put wax paper in the pans so that the cakes would not stick. One of the baking mixes and some oil. I think Jennella was telling Carrie how to grease the pans. Carrie is greasing her pan. Marykaytelyn is mixing up her cake. Some of the cakes are ready to go into the oven. Jennella is making her cake. Carrie is reading the directions on her cake mix box. I know that that's not what it looks like, but she closed her eyes just as the picture was taken. Grandma help...
