In The Kitchen With Grandma
Last week on Thursday and Friday my Grandma helped Joanna, Charisa (two of my older sisters), and me with cake decorating. I love baking and have always wanted to learn to cake decorate, and I was so happy to finally learn how.
We started on Thursday; we made the cakes and crumb-coated them, made some frosting and tried to make roses, but it was too warm inside to do so, and so we made some on Friday. I had forgotten about taking pictures and so after our first day's baking was done I went and got the camera and took some pictures. Don't worry I didn't forget the camera on Friday.

The dirty dishes in the sink were waiting to get washed from our baking.
Decorating bags drying from being washed.
Joanna chose to make the spice cake.
After leveling and crumb coating the cakes.
Some cake decorating tips.
Extra frosting from trying to make roses.
A few of the roses that Grandma did.
My cake after it was crumb coated.

I did white cake, this is the back of the box.
I do not have a picture of the cake box that Charisa used as it got thrown out before we thought of the camera, but Charisa made chocolate cake.
Friday
Let the fun begin!
My older sister, Abigail, took the pictures on Friday so that I could concentrate on the decorating.
We used the back of the cake pans to practice decorating and using the tips.

We were waiting to hear what Grandma's next directions were going to be.
The roses that were completed at the time.
Getting started on the cakes.
Joanna bringing her cake to the table.
We obviously had fun; I didn't realize Abigail got this on camera.
Joanna was making her first rose.
What were my three younger sisters doing while we were cake decorating? Well on the other end of the table they were designing something for a shirt to enter in a contest.

Me frosting my cake.

Grandma making some of the frosting thinner.
There was a small space between the board and the cake on just a small place so Joanna was fixing it.
The roses again. The one sliding down the tooth bick was too heavy, because I put to many petals on it, but it was still pretty, so it went on my cake.
Grandma teaching us how to make clowns for cake tops.
Charisa planning her cake design using her practice pan.
The start of decorating my cake, three roses in the center with leaves.
The start of Joanna's cake. She loves lavender so I was not surprised.

Mine again
Charisa added pink flowers with white flowers in the center of them on her cake.
Joanna added some yellow, it draws out some color.

You can see some of Charisa's practice pan in this picture.

I wonder what color frosting this would make if it got all mixed up?
I added a purple border, Joanna helped me turn the cake board because it didn't want to turn easily.
I added pink dots, they were little roses.

I really like this picture.
We took Charisa's cake to a cousin who had a birthday that day.

The white cake that I made.
I have to get a lot of practice first but eventually I plan to start a cake decorating business.
I will do another post sometime with cake decorating tips.
Shalom!
